Port Arthur – Separate Prison

I was at first Puzzled by the concept of a Prison within a prison, but when you consider that Port Arthur was set up to punish repeat offenders from other colonies such as New South Wales (Sydney Town) Those interned here must have been a Rum Lot to say the least and measures would have to be taken against those who would not toe the line. The answer, deprive them of all human contact, even in religous observence, and in addition within this restriction was the threat of the isolation cell. My blood ran cold and the door was permanently open!
